CAMPUS LIFE:

Students come to The Medical University of Lodz to study to become competent physicians. However, during their time spent on Campus, many of them will discover something more: an up-to-date, high-tech campus, fantastic city life, and the diversity of fellow students, combining to make the student experience at the Medical University of Lodz a memorable one.

The Medical University of Lodz Campus is located in the heart of downtown Lodz, the second largest city in Poland, and is only a short distance from all basic amenities, as well as the central bus lines, train stations, and Lublinek Airport. Lot and Rayanair Airlines now offer flights from Lodz to Warsaw and other international cities.

CITY LIFE:

The lifestyle in Lodz is quite similar to that found in US and Canadian cities, with familiar eating and shopping places. The main street of the city, Piotrkowska Street, displays numerous buildings in the eclectic style of the architecture dating from the early 19th century. This street forms a 7 km. promenade and commercial center, with government buildings, banks, elegant boutiques, hotels and restaurants. Nowadays, "P" Street has become quite popular as a vibrant night life center, with a growing number of cafes, coffee shops, pubs and clubs, fashionable among the younger set.

- PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

Lodz contains an extensive train and bus network, operating 24 hours per day, and available at a reduced fare to all students with a Student Identity Card.

- CURRENCY

The Polish Currency is the Zloty (PLN), and there are numerous currency exchange areas located throughout Lodz. The exchange rate at present is 1 USD = 2.42 PLN.

- BANKING

Students have the choice of opening either a Polish or a Foreign Currency Bank Account, at well-known banks such as BOS and ING.

- TELEPHONE, POST OFFICE & OTHER SERVICES

PUBLIC TELEPHONES require chip cards sold at local post offices and newsagents. POST OFFICES throughout the city are usually open weekdays from 8 A.M. to 6 P.M., with the Main Post Office located at 38 Tuwima Street, being open 24/7.

There are several local PHARMACIES, such as APTEKA, usually open daily until 8 P.M.

There are also many INTERNET CAFES located in prominent areas throughout the city.

- COST OF LIVING

The average cost of living in Poland is generally less expensive than in the US. For example, a studio apartment costs approximately $300 USD per month, and a one-bedroom apartment generally runs about $500 USD per month.

- SHOPPING

All of the students' shopping needs can be carried out at the numerous shops along P Street, as well as trendy indoor shopping malls, such as Galleria Lodzka or Manufaktura, open from 10 A.M. to 7 P.M. There are also many large supermarkets and Wal-Mart-type discount stores, such as Tesco and Media Market.

- SPORTS and LEISURE

There are many diverse activities available to students during their free time, such as: Botanical gardens, recreational areas, forests, a garden zoo, indoor pools, water parks, ice rinks, tennis courts, fitness clubs, and climbing walls. Additionally, there is a large University Swimming Pool open to all students.

- CULTURAL EVENTS

The city of Lodz offers numerous cultural events, such as the Philharmonic Theater, drama theaters, movie theaters, opera houses, and museums of art, history and cinematography.
